Kerry Washington is not surprised that so many people have come out to protest over the past week, following the killing of George Floyd after the death of a police officer kneeling on his neck for nearly nine minutes. The actor believes that the protest is an example of is a society supposed to be all along.
“It makes me filled with so much hope and encouragement,”she told Jimmy Kimmel in the video above. “And I think we as a nation and as a world in some ways, we just finished having our governments work the way that does not reflect our values. Like I think for a long time, people thought that you could just be a passenger on the train called democracy, but this is not how it works.
“Democracy, if we all show up, all of us Express our values, whether it is voting or in street protests. That’s what democracy.”
