This is one of the three options, the Virginia High School League discussed at its previous meeting on 15. The other two options is to cancel all fall sports except Golf and cross country or exchange of the spring and the fall sports season.
Sport to play three shortened season began in December by a vote of 34-1.
“This is the best option for everyone, so I expected it,”Brock Lake quarterback Billy Edwards novel. “I would have preferred a whole season, but this plan was created in order to let everyone have a season. We know that, whatever they gave us we had to take, it will be a lot better than we are now.”
Aggregation type to preserve the opportunity to play all sports during the 2020-21 academic year, but each season will be a lot of modifications. Football, for example, plans to begin practice on Thursday, and played 16 weeks of the game, from late August until the national championship. 12. The shortened program allows only nine weeks of the game. Basketball usually plays with 12 weeks of games between Thanksgiving and mid-March; this season will be eight weeks long.
“People must understand that usually there is no horizontal current in our system,”VHSL Executive Director Billy hwan said at Monday’s meeting. “There will be a big change in what it looks like.”
The plan from December to June is contingent in Virginia’s remaining Stage 3 of the re-open. In Stage 3, high risk sports, such as football, basketball and hockey are not allowed. If the state of the progress to re-open, the season can start early; if the Cov of the intensification of the crisis, the season may be delayed or cancelled.
“I think that the model of the three is rightfully the only one fair of all the sports,”Chantilly women’s soccer coach Melissa Bibbee said. “This is the only one to give us a fighting chance.”
While the fall does not include the low risk of the sport of Golf and cross country, these movements are also postponed to the spring. The VHSL vote does not exempt these movements from the delay in the issue of fairness.
Even as the plan is in place, many questions remain unanswered. The Committee will meet. 24 to discuss what the playoff format, if any, use. If season canceled, the related issues of athletes re-classification. Finally, the time will come the questions about the audience. And state to defer to school districts on issues related to the Cov Protocol and tests and procedures when athletes test positive.
“Obviously, they will have to make some of the logistics,”Patriot boys basketball coach Sherman River said. “But just the simple fact that we will have a season its a very happy moment for me and I’m sure for our players.”
Also the question of overlap between the sports. And the local private alliances, such as the interstate games and the Independent School Alliance has proposed a model, wherein an end of the season, before the start, the VHSL plans there may be up to three weeks of overlap between the seasons. For some multi-sport athlete, this ability to tough decisions.
“I certainly see some issues, but these are extreme times,”Bibbee said. “This year, we just need to go with the flow. Play the double movement is important, for many reasons. But kids can have a choice.”
But there are plans of a potential season, excitement is higher than North Virginia.
“The kids have been like from here to go out,”river said. “The first question to me this morning, when we found out about when we will start to work. I had to tell them:’guys, relax. We’re just happy that we’re going to play some games.’ “
