Microsoft will shut down all its physical retail stores around the world, to develop their digital presence(via MCV/develop).
A total of 82 locations will be closed throughout the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia and Puerto Rico. Employees will be transitioning to a remote role providing sales, training and support of customers,”all employees will have the opportunity to work with Microsoft”should they wish to do so.
“Our sales growth online, as our product portfolio evolved in a largely digital product, and our excellent team has proven successful customer service, beyond any physical location,”says David Porter, corporate Vice President for Microsoft. “We thank our Microsoft Store customers and we look forward to continuing to provide them with the service online and with our retail sales team in Microsoft’s position.”
The company will not become fully digital, though. There will be four Microsoft Experience Center, London, NYC, Sydney, and at its campus in Redmond Washington, so”re-envisioning the space, and serve all customers.”
